When Steve and Dan brought up the idea of holding a tackle football game with the LVMPD police officers against the area firefighters, I was a bit skeptical, and to be completely honest, it seemed a little too much to accomplish in such a short amount of time. For over 3,000 people, game day was easy and fun. It was the first of its kind for many, and for some, it brought back many memories of the past. Our players, many of whom thought their last college or pro game would be their last time ever suiting up, got one last go-around. As everyone watched and enjoyed the game, cheering on our team, it was clear that the months of preparation were paying off. Saturday, May 7, marked the culmination of an idea. For those of you who are not aware, the LVPPA has its own charity that supports the children of fallen officers assigned to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. LEAF is funded by donations, and the funds are used for gifts at Christmas and to celebrate the birthdays of fallen members’ children. Read More

It had been 39 years. A vast majority of our officers pushing a black-and-white today were not alive the last time this game had been played. Today, at 50 years old, I was 11 the last time these cops (The Mean Machine) took the field to play the fire department (The Porkchoppers) in the 10th and final installment of the police/fire rivalry. When the idea of reinstating the Police vs. Fire football game was first brought up, I was a no. I thought of injuries, no interest in the game and a bunch of old dudes like me trying to relive the “glory days.” I was wrong. Completely wrong. This was an amazing event. Every year, the Law Enforcement Assistance Fund (LEAF) gives out several $5,000 scholarships to deserving immediate family members of PPA members. These scholarships are paid for out of the LEAF account and not the PPA account. Read More

The LVPPA recently planned and hosted a tackle football game between cops and firefighters that required a lot of time and dedication to ensure we had a successful event. The LVPPA reps and staff worked tirelessly for weeks to ensure every aspect of the event went as smoothly as possible. Read More
