LVPPA on Facebook

Circa 1957. City of Las Vegas Police Officer Walter Earp, relative of famous lawman Wyatt Earp is pictured being presented with a special made, one off, Colt Single Action Army revolver by Colt Firearns.

And yes that's Sammy Davis JR wearing a gun belt. Only in Las Vegas!!! Walter served our community for over 24 years, retiring in 1978.

Las Vegas' Top Cops—LVMPD's Sergeant Spencer Basner, Officer Tom Cognian and K-9 Officer Jeffrey Corbett—are featured in the June issue of American Police Beat magazine. We applaud them and all the other Top Cops Awards winners from across the country for their exemplary service to our communities! Well deserved!

The National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) recognized the heroism and bravery of dozens of law enforcement officers from across the country at its 29th annual Top Cops Awards dinner […]

Recognizing and understanding First Responder mental health is slowly gaining traction in our community. 911 Dispatchers / Calltakers and Crime Scene Analysts (CSI) are often times overlooked and disregarded.

Tonight, LVPPA President Steve Grammas and Secretary Greg Stinnett we're privileged to attend an event hosted by 911 @ Ease International @911ateaseinternational

We were fortunate to spend time with
NYPD Dispatcher (Retired) Gladys Mitchell. Gladys worked in the Communications Division of NYPD for over 20 years.

Gladys was the dispatcher working the 911 Terrorist Attack on September 11, 2001. She shared her story of that day and her story of the Post Traumatic Stress she experienced in the years to follow.

Most importantly she told us she was able recognize she needed help and sought that help through 911 @ Ease International. We appreciate her testimony.

We at the LVPPA appreciate the hard work the men and women of our communications Bureau and CSI Bureau do every day. We recognize that you too experience traumatic events on a daily basis.

If you need help please reach out. This service is confidential and is not affiliated with the department.

Police Officer suicide and Post Traumatic Stress are the elephants in the room in the first responder community.

Departments teach their officers aspects of criminal law, tactics, codes, and definitions.

New officers learn how to shoot guns, respond to active shooters and operate an emergency vehicle.

Departments teach officers how to better relate to culturally diverse communities and even how to deal with an aggressive dog, but how many officers can say their department has had serious training related to suicide and how to properly address the traumas we face every day.

These issues are not exclusive to cops. Dispatchers and Crime Scene Analysts see and hear the horrors that life can bring on a daily basis.

The Las Vegas Police Protective Association met with 911 @ Ease Co-Founder, CEO, and Executive Director Mike McGrew to learn more about their operation.

911At Ease provides first responders, and their family members, with access to free, professional, confidential, local, trauma-informed counseling and therapy.

First responders operate in trauma-based professions where emotional injury is a common side effect with work-related situations and events.

This may cause issues with one’s professional and personal life, and/or PTS (Post Traumatic Stress), which leads to behavioral, mental, and or physical health issues that can have severe consequences.

Furthermore, they provide peer-to-peer support, chaplaincy, referral services, and critical incident response. 911AEI offers these services through the help of qualified clinicians who are finely attuned to the culture and lifestyle surrounding first responder professions and their families.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this help and these resources please reach out. as always stay safe and watch out for one another. We at the LVPPA are always a phone call away for our members.

The LVPPA remembers Police Officer II Jason Swanger. One year ago today we lost Jason due to COVID-19.

Jason was a beloved husband and father. Jason also served our nation in the United States Navy.

God Speed Brother.

Metro police patrols usually involve watching for crime and protecting the public. But now, officers are doing their part to deliver food in addition to service. “Patrol packs” contain a number of canned items and nonperishable items. The idea is to provide a meal for families that need a little help.

LVMPD Officer Samuel Wittwer says it’s the best part of his job, having kids in his patrol area run toward him, instead of away. That’s because he’s the officer with the snacks. Once or twice a week, he fills up the back of his patrol car with Lunchables, passing them out to kids in an apartment complex near Maryland Parkway and Twain.

KSNV NBC Las Vegas covers news, sports, weather and traffic for the Las Vegas, Nevada area including Paradise, Spring Valley, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Indian Springs, Sloan, Searchlight, Laughlin and Nellis AFB.
