On December 3, the PPA gave back to the community by donating $1,000 to help less fortunate kids have a brighter Christmas. Metro’s longstanding program of Shop With a Cop makes this possible.
The PPA has a donation committee, and one of the charities your Association supports yearly is Shop With a Cop. This event is an opportunity for our officers to take an underprivileged child shopping for Christmas gifts they would not get otherwise. This is a wonderful project that shows the community that we care about them, and shows the children that officers are not be feared but are here to help them have a better life. On December 3 this year, over 120 children were taken shopping, and we are proud that we were able to contribute to this cause. It’s safe to say that many of the officers who participate in buying gifts for these great kids spend well over the $130 that is allotted to them.
Also on December 3, the PPA, PMSA and PPACE sponsored Santa Day for our members. This is our third Santa Day, and it has gotten larger and better every year. This year we had not only pictures with Santa, but also bounce houses to play in, food to eat, cookies to decorate and plenty of hot chocolate to drink so you were nice and warm while riding the holiday train around the PPA parking lot. One of the big hits is the kids laying on the large conference room floor, watching Santa movies and eating popcorn. Over 460 members and their families came out to enjoy the festivities.
At the PPA, we want to continue to give back to the community and our members. We look forward to hosting more events, and we hope that you and your families will attend.
