On January 20, 2025, Agent David Maland of the United States Border Patrol was killed in the line of duty.

Agent Maland was shot and mortally wounded while conducting a traffic stop near Newport, Vermont.

David was 44 years old and had been a Border Patrol agent for nine years. He is survived by his parents, brother and girlfriend.

Godspeed, brother.
