Downtown Las Vegas Crime is Decreasing, Authorities Say

Authorities say crime in downtown Las Vegas has been decreasing.

Metro Police released a report showing crime trends across the area.

The report states crime has increased everywhere in the Las Vegas valley since last year except for downtown.

Murders in downtown are down 63 percent. Sexual assault is down 11 percent, and robberies are down 10 percent. Assault and battery with a deadly weapon has gone down by 5 percent.

Metro Police had said some of the biggest challenges the agency faces are getting more guns off the streets and becoming more diverse. About 60 percent of the Las Vegas population is Hispanic, so the department is working to create a police force more reflective of the community.
