Sheriff Joe Lombardo has announced the creation of a new Gangs/Vice Bureau, according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department news release.
The sheriff cited the 166 homicides committed in LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2016 and the rise in violent crime as top reasons for the new bureau.
While cities across the nation are also experiencing increases in violence, a common belief is the incidents are driven by gangs and guns in communities.
The Gangs/Vice Bureau is being created that will specifically focus on the sheriff’s initiative to reduce violent crime in the Las Vegas community. This change is expected to be implemented in the next couple of weeks.
