On January 15, 2025, Deputy Sheriff Jesus Vargas of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office was killed in the line of duty.

While Deputy Sheriff Vargas and his partner were attempting to serve a warrant, the suspect fired at the deputies from his vehicle, mortally wounding Vargas.

Jesus was 41 years old and had been a cop for 17 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.
