Officer deaths lead to pension change for public employees killed on duty

The families of public employees who die on the job will get better benefits, regard­less of the duration of their employment, thanks to a legislative change driven by the families of Las Vegas police officers who were gunned down during a shooting rampage last year.

Metro officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo were fatally ambushed as they ate lunch June 8, 2014. The killers also took the life of Joseph Wilcox, who was shopping at a Wal-Mart, before their campaign of terror ended in a shootout with police.
