Today we honor Sergeant Robert F. Dula, who was killed on this day in 1955. He joined the Las Vegas Police Department on June 16, 1952, was promoted to sergeant on January 16, 1954, and served the Department for approximately three years.
While working out of the Traffic Division, Sergeant Dula and his partner responded to a call to aid a citizen who had been beaten at Las Vegas Boulevard South and Fremont. At 12th and Fremont, Sergeant Dula’s motorcycle was struck by two juveniles — the same two suspects who had beaten up the citizen and were fleeing from the incident.
The incident occurred 10 minutes before the end of Sergeant Dula's tour of duty. He was only 26 years old when he died and was survived by his wife and two small children.

Late Friday afternoon, Downtown Area Command patrol officers responded to a hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard near Charleston Boulevard and made contact with a homicide suspect who lit his room on fire.
SWAT, K-9 and Crisis Negotiators responded. While trying to peacefully take the suspect in custody, the suspect repeatedly stabbed K-9 Enzo. SWAT operators were eventually able to take the savage in custody.
Enzo was immediately transported to a hospital where he was treated by veterinarians.
Enzo is expected to recover. Even though he was stabbed, he stayed in the fight as long as he could and did everything possible to stop this piece of crap. Thankfully, this scumbag is off the streets and is no longer a threat to the public. Hopefully Enzo got some good bites in!
Every day, your officers roll out of the gates with the goal of making our city safe. They appreciate your support. Thank you to the City of Las Vegas Fire Dept., who responded to ensure this maniac didn’t burn an entire building down.

Today we remember LVMPD K-9 Nicky, who was shot and killed by friendly fire while apprehending an armed subject. Officers had responded to the area after reports that the subject had been firing shots. Nicky was deployed as officers attempted to take the subject into custody. The man opened fire, forcing officers to return fire as K-9 Nicky bit the subject. One round struck Nicky, killing him.
It was later determined that the man had murdered two of his mother’s neighbors, who had come to her assistance as he fought with her. The subject later died of the gunshot wounds that occurred during the fight with officers.
Nicky had just returned to duty after recovering from wounds inflicted by a machete during an apprehension in February 2015.
